I watched the sky the other day, it was beautiful! I drove over a large bridge, looked up, and saw amazing clouds. For a moment, just a brief moment, they stood out so sharply to me, it took my breath away. (Don’t worry, it was a short glance, I was driving after all) Focused back on the road, I realized it had been a while since I had connected to my environment and admired the natural beauty around me.
Sometimes we can get sucked into the day-to-day activities. We get drawn in like a merry-go-round… and round, and round. We worry about things like the UPS truck. When will it get here? Will it be late? We multitask with the hopes of getting a lot accomplished. We focus more on other people’s lives and events happening in the world than on our own. I’m in awe of how fast paced our culture can be and how we can be easily distracted with the things that aren’t very purposeful at all. Me included.
In some respects, we have to be honest with ourselves. We have to make a living, we have to do what we need to do. The dog needs to be groomed. The kids need to get to school. And we have to make it to our job on time. However, just because these things in life have to get done, they don’t create the ultimate excuse to ignore the bliss that is guaranteed to you by simply being here on earth. When we are lost in our daily responsibilities or distractions, we can miss the bliss!
Take brief moments in your day where you can check in with yourself. In that moment, step out of this man-made machine and step into the deeper reality that is within yourself. All it takes is ten minutes a day. Ten minutes to find a moment that is just yours. Think about this when you look up at the sky… no one sees the sky like you do!
